CAST giving first Neighbors Helping Neighbors Award to Hands Fuel Co.

(February 15, 2018 – Greenport, NY)  Community Action Southold Town, Inc.  (CAST) will give its Inaugural “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” Award to Hands Fuel Co. at the Annual Have A Heart Dinner which benefits CAST’s Winter Emergency Fund.  The award presentation will be at Peconic Landing on Thursday, February 15, 2018 during the 7:00pm Dinner seating.  The award is designed to honor the business, organization or person that best exemplifies Outstanding Community Service.  For several years, Kara and Jeff Demarest, owners of Hands Fuel Co., have donated gallons of heating oil to CAST’s Emergency Fund.  This year, they donated 700 gallons of fuel that will go to families in need requesting emergency heating assistance. As many of our neighbors struggle during the tough winter months, Hands Fuel Co. is making a difference for vulnerable families in Southold Town.

Since 1965, CAST has been serving low-income residents from Laurel to Orient Point and Fisher’s Island. CAST helps individuals and families meet their basic needs in the areas of nutrition, clothing, energy, employment, and education.  CAST’s mission is to promote self-sufficiency and provide a safety net for Southold Town residents in need. However, we cannot do it alone. Our Emergency Fund helps clients who are faced with unexpected emergencies including lack of heat or electricity, medical bills, car repairs, transportation needs and other expenses that arise with little or no warning.  Providing emergency assistance is critical to our mission and the support of the community makes it possible. With this “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” Award, we want to recognize our community partners that help us achieve our mission and strive to make a strong, safe, and vibrant community for all to enjoy.

Hand’s Fuel Co. stands out as a company that seeks to improve the well-being of those living on the North Fork.  Hands Fuel Co. is an outstanding example of CAST’s motto “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.”
